Don’t Have Time To Read Books? Try Listening to Podcasts On Your Phone!

Let me be totally honest with you – I am a bookworm.

I love to read, learn, research, grow and expand my knowledge and interests. I am a hardcover kind of gal – I love the smell, feel the wisdom of tangible books. My favorite part is to flip to the back of the book to read about the author’s personal life and how they came to be. Their challenges, the acknowledgment section. I guess I like to see that the author is human and real?

If I don’t learn new things every month, my brain literally shrinks and, as a result, I feel stagnant, contractive and not in alignment with how I want to show up in my life as a woman, wife, and mother.

Thing is…. As a busy mom of three young kids, I don’t really have time to finish a book cover to cover (who am I kidding, I rarely even get to half of the book). Seeing the same book on my nightstand for months on end, raises the very familiar question: “What is wrong with me?”

The truth is, nothing is wrong with me, or you. Raising children is time-consuming and it is not easy to manage your time and energy. Most of us get to read a book late at night, after putting everyone to bed and truthfully fall asleep way before getting through a page or two. Then we feel guilty for not being able to return books to the library on time or feel like we are wasting money by purchasing books and never reading them.

We all know that learning is important, and there is so much to learn, especially as a parent! Want to raise a confident child, eat and feed healthfully, have an awesome marriage, succeed in business, money, career, friends, etc? There are hundreds of books for every category, and I get so excited every time I see one.

What do you do when you don’t have time to read? Should you put learning on the backburner for the next eighteen years?? HELL NO!!!

Here’s what you should do instead. Explore the world of podcasts!

Once I’ve discovered podcasting it has completely changed my life. Now, instead of reading books I listen to people’s conversations, interviews, insights and soak in their wisdom.

The best part about podcasting is that episodes are usually very short (30-60 minutes) and you get to listen in between going about your day. I listen in the car, in the pickup line, while I do grocery shopping, fold the laundry, wash the dishes and even while I am in the bathroom. Admit it, you do take the phone with you to the bathroom 🙂

There is something magical about hearing a person speak week after week, it’s almost like you are getting to know them better. I love that about podcasting. You get to hear their voice, hear them laugh, tell jokes, even curse – all of these things make an expert human and so much more relatable! It is so different than reading a book, where you don’t really get to feel the author’s personality.

Podcasts are the new thing these days, and almost every well-known expert has a podcast where they share their wisdom weekly with their followers and listeners. The cool thing about podcasts is that you don’t need to carry any extra devices with you and you don’t need data to listen! Once you subscribe to a show, it will automatically download the next episode to your phone (when you do have an internet connection) and will erase it after you finish listening to it. Of course, you can always delete episodes that don’t speak to you.

I am totally addicted to podcasting and listen on a daily basis, and actually have a podcast of my own as well!! I’ve created this tutorial video to show you, how easy it is to set it up on your phone and tune in weekly.

Happy podcasting!!
